MVOL v0.43 is Live: Finale, Part Two

Tons to say on this one, but I’d like to start off with two small announcements from a bit ago that I wanna get as many eyes on as possible!

First thing: I’m looking into making a Lith plushie! However, that’ll only really be affordable if lots of people would be willing and able to buy one, so I’d like everyone interested to make sure and vote in this poll!

Second: I need help! Every time I add to MVOL there are lots of bugs and typos and mistakes, and no, a spellchecker or grammar checker will not help. I need people that are willing to playtest the game before it comes out, to meticulously go through new content and make sure it’s up to snuff! Please consider putting in a few hours every couple months to help make MVOL the best it can be! You can get all the info you could possibly need to get started over here.

Now, on to the main subject! v0.42 brought us most of the Final Ending sequence, but I didn’t have time to do all the content for the other option on the big, first choice. You can now go either way! It’s gonna be a similar experience part of the way, then break off into a notably different thing after you’ve proven yourself. I’m sure some folks were disappointed they couldn’t make “the big choice” that was built up all that time as they wanted to.

Besides that, thanks to the voters, a handful of new results have been added to the Flirt option. These ones are unlocked by mid and late game states, so you won’t notice anything early on playing a new game from scratch.

And as usual, two new pieces of art have been added! Conversely, these ones you’ll only find playing through a new game, but they’re almost impossible to miss, on either end of the midgame.

You may notice that, well… v0.43 doesn’t have a whole lot in it. I’m pretty disappointed with it myself, but to be honest, v0.42 not only ate a good chunk of the time from its development, but left me really burned out. I’ve been kinda doing my best running on fumes through this version’s cycle, and I’m gonna make a point of it to really relax and clear my head before going on. Sorry for the light release! I hope it’s still fairly enjoyable, I feel like it came out pretty well despite my current state.

So! What happens from here? Well, as I mentioned as an aside in My Big Series Explaining My Thoughts on MVOL and My Plans for the Future, there’s still a lot to be done with MVOL! I consider it still in Alpha right now, and when the main features are all complete, I’ll move it to Beta and start tuning it up to be a more enjoyable and intuitive product. After that, we’ll hit the big 1.0, and it’s possible I’ll continue adding content for a little while after that.

That’s the long term. For the short term, I still have a few things to add and finish up before I consider it “feature complete” and ready to move to Beta, most of which is adding hidden content, as some of you may be avidly anticipating. The tradition has always been to add content “vertically” to the main storyline in alternation with adding things “horizontally,” as in side content, and we’ve got a bit of that still waiting to go in to round out the experience.

That’s where we stand with MVOL right now. I’ve also been in contact with some people trying to get things figured out and rolling on my future projects! It’s still very much up in the air, but we’re getting things started, and hopefully we’ll see the transition to new projects coming in, gradually, before long! I plan to have a healthy overlap period where you can kinda see what’s coming up while MVOL is still getting its last few updates.

Other than that… I’ve been saying more silly, pervy stuff on Twitter recently? I try to get more into that now and then. If that’s your bag, check it out.

Thanks for playing, and for reading all this! It’s a pretty big milestone for the project, but there are a few more coming up soon!

  1. Hey, I don’t know where to put it, so I’m putting it here; I have a problem. I can’t seem to load a save, there are two save files where I think they should be, but the game can’t see them.
When I go to load a save, there is nothing there.

I’d really hate to start a new game all over again.
    Please help!?

    1. Hello! Sorry you’re having trouble. Do you mean that when you go to load, *all* the saves you expect to be there aren’t? In that case, it may be that you were playing in incognito before– which means your browser wipes your saves after you close that tab. Also, some browsers will be a little weird about where they save the files. If you weren’t using incognito, I’d suggest trying to play the game *exactly* the same way you did before, and if they show up, then use the save manager to make a backup that you can load where you want to play.

Either way, I definitely recommend downloading a copy to play right off your computer for a more reliable experience! Hope this helps!

      1. Well, I don’t know how to say this so, um… I think I found out what happened, and it appears that I’ve had a little cookie monster on my computer eating all my cookies (read deleting).

The .sol files I thought where the save files turned out to be some files the game creates when it’s started for the first time and in my panic to find my saves I forgot I have CCleaner set to delete cookies and to run when windows starts, so one windows update later and… yeah you get the idea. Woopsie!

So, sorry I made you have to take time out of your no doubt busy schedule to solve a problem that is entirely my own fault, and that could have been easily avoided by making regular backups and set exceptions in CCleaner (which I have now).

Though I guess I should thank you for trying to help even if there is nothing to be done, sadly the saves are gone and I have have to start anew but this time I’m gonna make damn sure I make backups.

        1. Ahh, that’ll do it. I don’t hear that one much these days, so I didn’t think to guess it. Well, glad you found the cause! Sorry you have to restart, but hey, the game has a lot of replayability built in, so I hope you enjoy maybe discovering something new!

      1. I’m not sure, but I think that may mean that your credit card company thinks that charge looks like someone else might be using your card, so you’d need to contact them to confirm it. Patreon’s bank is set up in the UK, so it might look weird if it’s your first overseas charge in a while.

You might just get an email or text from your CC company to confirm it, or you might need to call them and let them know that yes, this is you. Alternatively, you could try again in a couple days, or just use paypal, which should be more reliable. You can usually even pay with your credit card *through* paypal without issue.

Hope that helps! Either way, I try to encourage people to pledge at the start of the month rather than the end, or else you’ll get charged again on the first. So, wouldn’t hurt to wait a couple days and try again anyway! Thanks in advance for being part of the project!

  2. Is a good ending even possible? I have been going through the options one by one and there seems to be only misery in sight.
This is so FRUSTRATING. Anti-climactic too.

    1. It sounds like you may need to go back and strengthen your relationship with Lith, then try again. As you may notice, your choices can make a difference, but in the end it’s all wearing down on both of you, and you can only see it through to the end if you’ve bonded enough before this that you can still stay positive.

  3. Is there any way to break the “terminal” to where you can have a life outside of the void? This might have to be a late game, beta release. Or, if the person has basically a complete save file, they can start a new game and have a secret option to possibly break down the barrier, instantly getting the player out and into Lith’s world (stated in the past option of the talk). In this, you could potentially met some of the character mentioned, like Melody.
    Thanks for reading! ~ Tri

  4. I’m using Android and I haven’t been able to launch the game. I’ve tried to re-install the APK, I’ve re-installed Adobe air and tried both links on Adobe air, restarted my phone and it still doesn’t launch MVOL. How do I fix this?

    1. So you’re saying that both the game and Adobe Air install successfully, but when you try to play the game, it doesn’t work? What happens when you try?

My two best guesses would be: you should try re-downloading the MVOL apk, maybe from a different mirror, and reinstall to see if that fixes it; or if you have never made it work, it may be that there’s an issue with your phone? Maybe it’s old, or overburdened, or has some “security” app on it preventing you from playing apps not from the play store?

Let me know the details of what goes wrong if this doesn’t explain it. I’m a little weak on the Android side of things, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to get that version running for everyone, but I’ll try!

      1. I’ve tried to check to see if there was something preventing it from launching in my settings, nothing, play store, still nothing. I’ve tried downloading Adobe air before installing

  5. (accidentally clicked before finishing sorry) I’ve tried updating my system and security and my security doesn’t seem to attempt to stop the app. I think my phone is incompatible so it just keeps the game on the blue loading screen. Not even reaching the menu

  6. So I’m gonna say it again I don’t know if your even still reading these yet but I just finished the game and I am happy I started this thinking it was just onother game then I left for a while bored and the came back to it and continued and I was starting to get into the story and I really like how it ended but really just wanted to have an option to barge into that word and like take them both out of the void but Im thinking that happens anyway and I’m really glad I came back to it so I’m uninstalling the game so I’m not tempted to ruin that aswome ending that and I’m satisfied with the ending so there not much more for me so I just wanted to say loved the game and I would like to know what happened to them and what kind of personality the character got (she in this instance) and if they ever do actually get out but sorry for the long comment again I do want to see more of this but I won’t hold my breath for anything better and thanks for the game nudity, uncomfortable things, and fun things and all of it this a little more heartfelt then I intended but I’ll go with it now this game did not open my eyes to anything but it was still fun anyway I’m gonna stop here and yet again sorry it was so long

  7. Hey, I found a small typo. Try searching your codebase for the word “hintfurther”. It’s in one of the early scenes where you talk to Lith about anything and they suggest you take off your shirt.
